One of the five people arrested after looting Danville stores in the wake of the George Floyd protests in May has pleaded guilty to a charge stemming from one of the incidents.
19-year-old Greyson Tibbetts pled guilty Tuesday before Judge Nancy Fahey to one county of burglary. In return, the Vermilion County State’s Attorney’s Office dismissed charges of mob action, looting and criminal damage to property.
Tibbetts was arrested after breaking and entering the Stock and Field store on North Vermilion Street around 11:15 p.m. on Sunday, May 31st. He was arrested along with another woman for breaking into the store. Three other people were charged with looting the Burlington Coat Factory store at the Village Mall that same night.
The incidents occurred just a few hours after several people broke into stores in Champaign-Urbana in a similar manner.
Tibbetts faces up to three years in prison when he is sentenced on January 6th, although he is eligible for probation.
The other cases are ongoing.
