Illinois State Police say several drivers were given citations during special enforcement operations that were conducted in Vermilion County earlier this month.
District 10 Commander Louis Kink says state police troopers handed out 26 traffic tickets for distracted driving, including people talking on their cell phones and texting while driving.
During another enforcement period to cut down on impaired driving, troopers issued 37 citations in Vermilion County, including ones for speeding and seat belt violations.
Both special patrol programs provide extra patrol coverage for state police officers to focus on saving lives and reducing serious crashes by enforcing distracted driving laws.
