A once popular nightclub south of Danville is now just a memory. Construction crews on Monday demolished the former Lamplighter building located at the intersection of Illinois route one and East 14th Street in Tilton.
The building has been vacant for years but once was a very popular nightspot. Performers such as Freddy and the Freeloaders along with Mickey Gilley were just some those who entertained crowds there.
The building had also been a steakhouse and lounge in recent years.
A few former patrons drove by Monday to watch as heavy equipment tore into the building. Others went on social media posting comments about memories of good times there.
Although the site is located just off Interstate 74 and has easy access there have been no plans announced for future use of the space.
