An investigation is underway into the cause of a fire which destroyed a two-story home in Ridge Farm early Friday (December 4, 2020). Flames were so hot they melted some of the siding on a neighbor’s home.
Ridge Farm volunteer firefighters received mutual aid from several other departments after the alarm sounded around midnight.
Emma Burch, 87, lived at the home and two other female relatives had been staying with her. None of them were hurt.
Kelley Andrews of Georgetown – Burch’s daughter – says her mother had become ill late Thursday night and had been taken to the hospital. The other two relatives who had been staying at the home learned that the house was on fire when a Ridge Farm Police officer informed the family while they were at the hospital.
The house that burned is located along North State Street – which is Illinois route one which runs through Ridge Farm.
Although no human occupants were hurt by the blaze, Andrews says four pets died in the fire. She says they included a cat, two bunnies and a ‘bearded dragon’ lizard.
