The City of Danville and Danville Area Community College are rolling out the red carpet for sixteen teams that will be playing this week in the NJCAA Division II Men’s National Basketball Tournament. Play begins Tuesday at the community college.
This year marks the 24th year that Danville has hosted the tournament, and Tournament Co-Director Dick Shockey says it will be more important for local fans to support the games. ‘’This is important this year because our students are on spring break – our public school students are on spring break. And usually we have about a thousand students on Thursday morning – which won’t occur this year. So I’m afraid our gym is going to be empty of fans,’’ said Shockey.
Shockey was commenting on WDAN Radio’s Saturday morning Sports Talk Show. You can hear all of the tournament games on WDAN 1490 am Radio, and they will also be streamed on VermilionCountyFirst.com.
Games on Tuesday are scheduled at 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. in the morning session….1:00 and 3:00 p.m. in the afternoon session….and 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. in the evening session. Tickets are $8 for each session. Tickets for DACC students and senior citizens are $4 and children 6 and under are admitted free for all games.
Some game times were changed for this year’s tournament in order to give each team playing in the championship game a day off during the tourney.
