Danville’s Dwelling Place daytime drop-in center for homeless people has been hit hard by a COVID case from one of its volunteers.
President Donna Edington says the center will be closed until Monday, December 21st. She says the volunteer was part of the organization’s “Nothing for Sale Gift Shoppe” on Saturday. The person then tested positive on Tuesday. Edington says the second gift giveaway for children will not be held.
The Dwelling Place is located at First Presbyterian Church just west of downtown. Edington says the center has been closed before during the pandemic, but she says that it will be hard for the people who use the center on a daily basis.
“Those individuals who were truly living on the street and were coming to the center are now back on the street with no daytime place to go to,” she says.
Edington says the shelter provides a vital place for people to wash their clothes and have a meal. She also says that everyone who attended the giveaway event on Saturday should be tested soon at one of the local COVID testing locations.
