Monday was a busy day for Danville firefighters as they worked two separate blazes. The first — at 845 Madison Street — was a controlled burn. City firefighters had been using the vacant home there for training recently. On Monday they concluded training at that location by allowing the home to become completely engulfed – then protecting nearby property as it burned to the ground.
Then Monday afternoon firefighters responded to another blaze at 403 Harmon Street. When they arrived the back portion of the single-story home was ablaze, and flames were shooting through the roof. The home — which was also vacant — was destroyed by the fire. The location where this fire occurred is just over a block west of North Gilbert Street at the corner of Ann and Harmon. The cause of the blaze has not been determined.
