The Chairman of Division II Men’s Basketball for the NJCAA, Tom McDonald says he is impressed with the tournament being held this week in Danville.
‘’The games have been competitive, spectators – the crowd have been very good and energetic and involved in the games,’’ said McDonald. ‘’One thing I really like about Danville is the volunteers and also the people who come to the game are really close in proximity to the court. So they really get a chance to get a feel for the flavor of the teams, the student athletes – what they’re like, and interact with them. It just makes for such a great experience for the student athlete – and that’s what this is all about.’’
McDonald is upbeat about not only the quality of the games, but also the support the tournament receives.
‘’The NJC is about two things – sportsmanship and opportunity. And when you can come to a community like Danville and you’re in the newspaper all the time – the media all over the place. You go out to eat and everybody knows who you are. That’s pretty warm, and the hospitality is unbelievable. And I think the student athletes, the teams and coaches greatly appreciate that,’’ added McDonald during an interview with VermilionCountyFirst.com News.
McDonald has been a strong supporter of keeping the games in Danville. This is the 24th year for Danville Area Community College to host the tournament. The games conclude Saturday night (March 25th) with the crowning of a new National Champion.
