A Vermilion County farmer is leading efforts to help some farmers in the plains states who have been affected by recent wildfires. Vern Rohrscheib and his farm employees were talking about the wildfire damage and decided to do something about it.
‘’I’ve got extra hay, and I’ve got trucks to haul it. I want to help,’’ said the Fairmount farmer. Rohrscheib and his crew will be delivering hay to Kansas, where wildfires have burned more than 650,000 acres in 21 counties.
The caravan will be leaving the farm and business, C & R Ag Supply, located west of Fairmount on Thursday, March 30th. Those wishing to donate hay for delivery to the affected area of Kansas should contact Lynn Rohrscheib at 217-369-1965, or call the Vermilion County Farm Bureau office at 217-442-8713. You are asked to make your donation by Wednesday (March 29th).
More than one-million acres were affected by the wildfires earlier this month in Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado. Besides killing livestock – and some people – the fires have left ranchers without hay, fencing and other essentials.
