Dozens of volunteers braved cold, damp weather Saturday to honor veterans. They placed wreaths on graves at the VA National Cemetery located just east of the VA Illiana Health Care Medical Center in Danville.
Some students from Georgetown – Ridge Farm High School — Logan Dawson, Cameron Ford, Trinity Collins, and Gentry Howard — were among them. “We’re a part of the National Honor Society,” said Dawson, “and this is something that means a lot to a bunch of us. It’s the right thing to do,” he added.

Tammy Williams is coordinator for the Wreaths Across America program at the Danville National Cemetery. “It’s personal for me,” said Williams talking with VermilionCountyFirst.com News, “because my best friend is buried here. My husband’s a veteran,” she added. “His father was also a Vietnam Veteran. So it touches me,” said Williams. “And I want to make sure we let the families know that we haven’t forgotten their sacrifice.”
