A public housing complex on the east side of Georgetown is set to be demolished within the next few months.
Jaclyn Vinson, executive director of the Vermilion Housing Authority, says the 26-unit Ramey Court complex is being torn down due to a lack of amenities in the area and plans are to leave the land vacant and undeveloped. The housing authority has received approval from the US. Department of Housing and Urban Development to demolish the complex.
Ramey Court was constructed in the 1950’s and consists of one-, two- and three-bedroom units. There are 13 buildings and 26 units total. Vinson says the complex lacks access to supermarkets, public transportation and places of employment.
Last month, the housing authority also received approval for a second phase of demolitions to the east side of the Fair Oaks housing complex on Fairchild Street in Danville.
