Danville Area Community College Trustees have voted to do away with tuition waivers for some high school students. Those students who take dual-enrollment credit courses at DACC will be charged 50-percent of the combined per-credit tuition, technology and activity fee starting June first. And students eligible for a free or reduced lunch will be charged 25-percent of the combined rate. The new costs do not include College Express or Middle College classes, but they do include classes that are taken by high school students online.
DACC President Dr. Stephen Nacco, says even without the state budget crisis the college needs to focus on tuition equity.
Also last night DACC trustees approved an increase in tuition – effective with the summer term. In-district students will pay $10 more per credit hour – which is $135. Out-of-district students will see tuition rise from $220 to $235 per credit hour. The Universal Fee will remain unchanged. The hike in tuition is expected to generate around $400,000 in additional funding for the college.
