Some citizens spent their Saturday morning meeting face-to-face with Danville’s mayor and department heads discussing the city’s proposed budget. During an ‘Open House’ on the budget Danville Mayor Scott Eisenhauer said discussions will be continuing on how proposed cuts will impact the Fire Division of the Department of Public Safety. ‘’I have been very encouraged by the discussions that have been going on with the Fire Division personnel,’’ said Mayor Eisenhauer Saturday morning. ‘’I think they have come to the table with some great thoughts and ideas – some options that we want to take a little bit longer to look at. So, what we have agreed to do is give them more time to meet with us and talk about what opportunities exist for savings within the Fire Division. They know that what we’re looking for is a savings overall of $708-thousand dollars. And they’re just asking that we working with them just a little bit longer to identify what that will look like,’’ added the Mayor during an interview with VermilionCountyFirst.com News.
So when the city council votes to place a proposed budget on public display Tuesday night (April 4, 2017), it will not reflect exactly how cuts will be made in the Fire Division.
Meanwhile, Danville Public Safety Director Larry Thomason says ‘’nothing is set in stone yet’’ on the number three fire station on North Griffin Street. However a Station Closure Committee is going to continue to meet this month so the closure of a station coincides with the start of the fiscal year on May 1st. Station 3 is where the fire department’s administrative offices are located.
