The Vermilion County Health Department has yet to receive its initial shipment of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Health Department Administrator Doug Toole said last week that he does expect the health department to receive its first shipment in the coming days.
One of the two COVID-19 vaccines approved by the Food and Drug Administration has already arrived in Vermilion County, as the Danville Veterans Administration facility began administering the Moderna vaccine to staff members on Wednesday.
The first vaccine shipments in Vermilion County will go to the county’s two hospitals–OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville and Carle Hoopeston Regional Health Center.
Once vaccines begin at the health department, Toole says the first doses will be given to medical and health care workers. The second group to receive them will be first responders, law enforcement personnel, teachers, state and county officials, jail staff, postal workers, food and transportation employees.
While there was no local COVID-19 update on Sunday, the Illinois Department of Public Health reported 3,767 new cases and 104 more deaths, increasing the state’s totals to 937,909 cases and 15,969 deaths. Toole says IDPH’s mobile testing team will be stationed outside the health department on Wednesday and Thursday of this week for drive-through testing.
