As North Korea prepared for a military parade, the United States and China have warned that nation about further provocations. During an interview with VermilionCountyFirst.com News, Congressman John Shimkus described the situation in Korea as:
‘’Scary, very scary. You have an unstable ruler – a dictator, totalitarian – a small group of elite impoverishing a nation and actually starving them,’’ said Shimkus. ‘’Again this is where in our history, Presidents who said ‘we’re going to negotiate, we’re going to cut a deal and we’ll keep them from developing.’ Well, North Korea is the perfect example of our past administrations trying to exert political pressure and cutting deals, and they still continue to deploy.’’
The United States deployed an aircraft carrier and its accompanying battle ships to the Korean Peninsula.
Also during the interview Representative Shimkus said, hopefully, China will help reduce tension in that region of the world. And as President Trump says U.S. – Russia relations may be at an ‘’all time low’’ following the U.S. missile strike last week in Syria, Congressman Shimkus remains optimistic.
‘’The good thing is they’re talking, right?’’
