Danville District 118 schools will stay on a full remote learning schedule for another two weeks.
Superintendent Dr. Alicia Geddis says the district had planned on returning to a hybrid model of in-person and remote learning at the elementary school level on Monday, but she says the increased positivity rate locally (10.6 percent) led to the decision to stay remote. That means that the earliest students could return to classroom will be Tuesday, January 26th.
Geddis says more than half of parents that took a survey in December prefer to have 5th grade through high school students return to the classroom in some form, but she says there are too many challenges for that to happen. She says that more than 80 staff members are unable to return to in-person learning due to health concerns for them or for relatives.
Danville High School, North Ridge Middle School and South View Upper Elementary School do have plans in place for some students to be inside the buildings, as the district will start in-person learning pods for students with the most academic needs and that are identified as such by district staff.
