The death toll from COVID-19 in Vermilion County has now reached 90 people, and the total case count also climbed to a new milestone.
Vermilion County Health Department Administrator Doug Toole says three more county residents have died from the coronavirus. They are two men in their 80’s and one man in his 70’s.
In addition, 107 new cases were reported on Wednesday night. Currently, Vermilion County has 432 active cases, although the number of people hospitalized from the virus locally continues to decline, now at only 16 people. Overall, there have been 7,030 cases throughout the county.
The new cases, broken down by age, consist of:
- Three people in their 80’s
- 10 people in their 70’s
- 14 people in their 60’s
- 20 people in their 50’s
- 16 people in their 40’s
- Eight people in their 30’s
- 15 people in their 20’s
- 10 teenagers
- Eight grade-school-aged children
- Two toddlers
- One infant
So far in January, 1,800 doses of COVID vaccinations have been administered in Vermilion County. The health department has given 610 first doses of the vaccine. The hospitals, VA Medical Center and pharmacies have administered nearly 1,200 doses (about 1,100 first doses, and more than 100 second doses.)
In addition, the state’s drive-through testing team will return to the health department on Thursday during the day for people to be tested.
