Vermilion County is about to embark on a new effort to help people find jobs. Danville Area Community College President Stephen Nacco discussed it on WDAN Radio’s Newsmakers program.
‘’Vermilion County is about to become a Regional American Job Center, beginning July 1st. And one of the first and only community colleges to run that initiative will be DACC. And it’s not DACC alone. DACC is going to have a number of community based partners – some faith-based,’’ said President Nacco. ‘’A lot of them (will be) non-profits that help do all wrap-around services for everybody who needs any kind of support. DACC jumps in for the educational end, but also the job end.’’
And the Danville Area Community College President says a Vermilion Advantage survey of area large employers found there will be plenty of jobs available if job-seekers have the right skills.
‘’Between now and the end of December 2018, there are going to be 1600 manufacturing jobs that will be unfilled unless the college, the high schools, Vermilion County Works – which is part of the college – and this American Jobs Center – steps up,’’ added Nacco.
Nacco says Danville Area Community College has taken the lead in helping ‘’the neediest’’ by working with the Housing Authority of the Danville Area to help some of those residents find jobs.
