UPDATE: Mick Jaguar has been chosen as the new name of the DACC mascot.

Danville Area Community College has a new mascot, and it is asking the public to choose its name.
Stacy Ehmen, the college’s Vice President of Services, says DACC worked with a costume company for several months to create a Jaguar mascot. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she says the college decided to do something fun for the community, and so it is letting social media users choose the new name.
“We just needed something positive to focus on, and it’s a connection to younger children, to the community members,” she explained. “We could use it in so many activities here at the college. Just something else for the community to identify with DACC.”
The contest actually started on Thursday with eight names for the Jaguar mascot, paired in a bracket format. Users could then choose their favorite name of the two, and then that name advanced to a group of four on Thursday. The final two names were announced today, They are “Mick Jaguar” and “Jagger the Jaguar”, both references to the Rolling Stones singer.
Ehmen says DACC has not had a mascot in at least the 30 years that she has worked there. She says the new mascot could also be at regular college events, community functions or events at Meade Park Elementary School.
Voting on the final naming selection will be open until Noon on Saturday, on DACC’s Twitter and Instagram pages. The winning name will be revealed during the women’s basketball game on Saturday. Due to no fans being allowed in attendance, viewers can watch the selection on the college’s athletic website.
