Vermilion County Board members will consider a 20-year lease agreement with the new Children’s Advocacy Center within the state’s attorney’s office for space at the Vermilion County Health Department building during their meeting Tuesday night.
County Board Chairman Larry Baughn tells VermilionCountyFirst.com that the center is already up and running but is operating out of State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy’s office inside the county courthouse. Lacy formed the center late last year as a way to provide services to youth crime victims, as Vermilion County was one of only a few in the state that did not have one. An executive director has already been hired.
The advocacy center is set to lease 341 square feet inside the building, which also houses the health department, Regional Office of Education and the Online Jail Visitation Center.
Board members will also vote on a resolution supporting local businesses affected by the pandemic. It was first proposed by board member Jerry Hawker last month. They will also vote on a budget amendment for the circuit clerk’s office in order to accommodate a new employee due to the addition of a new associate judge. Chairman Baughn says additional money is being put into salaries due to new minimum wage laws that are taking effect in Illinois.
The county board meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday night in the Ivadale Foster Vermilion County Board Chambers on the second floor of the Vermilion County Administration Building. Face masks will be required by all visitors. The meeting can also be viewed on Zoom using meeting ID: 956 1476 4144.
