The Illinois Senate has passed a bill that would allow for expanding gambling in the state…including adding a casino in Danville. The bill would also allow Chicago to control another casino.
The gambling bill is just one part of a ‘grand bargain’ being considered by lawmakers. And it appeared Friday that it could be awhile before any final action would take place on the bill.
Governor Bruce Rauner says he could go along with more gaming – if it’s part of a package that includes reforms. ‘’And I’ve said I’m open to whatever package can move the needle to a balanced budget – and I’ve said I’m open to local control,’’ said Governor Rauner. ‘’So the answer is if that came as part of a package, I could be supportive of it.’’
Senators remained hung-up, though, Friday on other key elements of the grand bargain – namely a tax increase and a property tax freeze.
