The Danville Jaycees Springfest Celebration is underway at a new location this year. It is being held at the Vermilion Regional Airport. Susan Miceli, co-chair of the event, describes what it is. ‘’Springfest is the unofficial kick-off to summer. We are very proud to bring the first carnival to the area of the season. It has been taking place for the last 37 years. And this year we are actually at the Vermilion Regional Airport – so if you are driving into Danville you’re going to take Bowman and just keep going north. And you won’t miss us because we are on the front lot,’’ said Miceli.
In addition to a large carnival there are also several local and area vendors participating this year. Miceli notes there is no admission fee to the grounds, and parking is free. So she hopes a lot of people will support it. And if that support is lacking, Miceli says this may be the last Springfest. ‘’Basically we are now at the make-it or break-it season with Springfest and the money that is raised,’’ says Miceli. ‘’The last couple of years we have taken a massive hit with fund-raising with Springfest because it is our only fund-raiser of the year. And it is our largest fund-raiser of the year. So, if Springfest does not go well for us this year we’re actually looking at cutting Springfest entirely. And if we don’t have enough we’ll actually wind-up even folding the chapter – and we’ve been in the community for over seventy-five years.’’
Hours for the event are from 5:00 p.m. until closing today (Thursday, June 1st) and Friday, June 2nd, 2017. Saturday’s hours are from 3:00 p.m. until close, and on Sunday Springfest will open at 2:00 p.m.
