The Vermilion County Health Department hosted its second weekly COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the Fischer Theatre on Thursday.
Administrator Doug Toole says that 510 doses were given out to patients during the clinic. He says that 10,870 total doses have been administered in Vermilion County, and 1,633 residents are considered fully vaccinated against the virus, or just over two percent of the overall population.
A number of volunteers helped put on the clinic. Nurses were provided by Lakeview College of Nursing and the University of Illinois at Chicago, personnel with the Danville Police Department, Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department, Pro Ambulance, Medical Reserve Corps and the Fischer Theatre volunteers all played a part in the event.
Toole says that the county health department is still having problems receiving doses from the state, but he says they have enough vaccines on-hand to the February 25th clinic and anyone remaining from this month’s clinics who will need to receive a second dose.
Due to the uncertainty regarding future vaccination clinics, Toole says the health department is not scheduling appointments for new patients at this time, but anyone who would like to be placed on a waiting list can call the Vermilion County Health Department at 217-431-2662, extension 263 or 264, during regular business hours (9 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday). Appointments for anyone on the waiting list will be considered once the department has enough doses available.
