A fire that destroyed a Danville home early Friday (June 16, 2017) has led to the arrest of two men on preliminary charges of arson. Danville Public Safety Director Larry Thomason says citizens in the area of the blaze in the 200 block of Kentucky Street supplied information which led to the arrests.
‘’This was a prime example of citizens seeing something and saying something, and without their assistance this case might have gone unresolved,’’ said Thomason. He added the Department of Public Safety ‘’can’t thank the individuals enough for their assistance.’’
The suspects are a 20-year-old man from Danville and a 30-year-old Westville man. Both were being held on preliminary charges of arson.
The fire completely destroyed the vacant home at 227 Kentucky Street, inflicting damages estimated between fifteen and twenty-thousand dollars. There were no injuries but firefighters were on the scene for over five hours.
‘’Arriving at the location firefighters found the home fully involved in fire,’’ said Thomason, ‘’and the home was identified as abandoned.’’
Director Thomason added that as firefighters doused the flames, police were told by several witnesses that a vehicle was seen in the area immediately following the discovery of the fire. ‘’Officers located a similarly described vehicle passing the fire scene and eventually took the persons in the vehicle in for questioning.’’ The names of the suspects were not immediately released.
