Vermilion County Health Department Administrator Doug Toole says enough people have contacted the health department about scheduling COVID-19 vaccines that its clinics this month are full.
Toole is asking that people not call the health department to be added to the waiting list as enough names are already on there. He says staff members are developing a new process for scheduling future appointments, and they will explain the new system when it is ready.
The health department reported six new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday evening, including two grade-school-aged children. There are currently eight Vermilion County residents who are hospitalized due to the coronavirus and 269 active cases in the county. Overall, there have been 8,473 positive cases and 103 total deaths since the pandemic began.
Danville Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. said Tuesday night that employees of Danville Mass Transit as well as police and firefighters have been fully vaccinated or are in the process of doing so. He says any other employees who haven’t yet been vaccinated will be eligible in phase 1C, the next eligibility phase.
The Illinois Department of Public Health reports that 3,584 county residents are now fully vaccinated, and 14,200 doses have been administered.
The state’s drive-through testing unit is at the health department on Wednesday, pushed back one day from Tuesday.
