Danville Public Safety Director Larry Thomason says a boy struck by a train Friday afternoon has died. He says the victim has been identified as a 13-year-old Danville boy, but his name has not been released yet.
Director Thomason says the boy was riding a bicycle when he was struck at the Griffin Street crossing – near the Danville Boys and Girls Club. The tragic mishap occurred shortly after 4:00 p.m.
Danville Police and Fire personnel responded, along with ambulance personnel and the boy was transported to Presence United Samaritans Medical Center where he died.
As the investigation continues police are asking that anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call Danville Police (unless officers have already talked to you). The Griffin Street railroad crossing was blocked for more than two hours as officers investigated the tragedy.
