Cardi B took to Instagram to reflect on success of her first hit single “Bodak Yellow” which is now certified diamond. The RIAA announced the news yesterday (March 9th) via Twitter. Cardi is the first female rapper in RIAA history to achieve the milestone.
Cardi wrote, “Thank you to everyone that sent me beautiful congrats on Bodak going, Diamond. A couple of years ago, I didn’t even understand what going diamond meant. I just wanted to win and break-in. This record changed my life.”
She continued, “Thank you to everyone who showed Bodak so much support and who bought the record till THIS DAYY!! That’s why it went diamond cause of the support YOU still give.”
She added, “Wap is a spicy one, shorty 5X platinum in 7 months. It makes me really happy cause I put this song out when I doubted myself the most. With hardly any radio play cause of how nasty it was but babyeeee it was a shocker!”
Cardi later took time out to call out people who said that she never gave rapper Kodak Black credit for the song. Back in 2017 when “Bodak Yellow” came out, Cardi revealed that the song was inspired by Kodak's 2014 song “No Flockin.”
She tweeted, “He got credit on the song WE both getting rich with the song till we die ..The song is called Bodak Yellow for a reason .You h*es get on this app saying the dumbest sh*t.”
Kodak later tweeted “Bodak Yellow Went Diamond Dam Right @iamcardib.”
