After one of its clinics had to be canceled this week due to low enrollment, officials with the Vermilion County Health Department are urging Vermilion County residents to sign up for one of its upcoming COVID-19 vaccine clinics in order to receive the vaccine.
Health Department Administrator Doug Toole says that the clinic that was scheduled for Wednesday at New Life Church of Faith in Danville has been canceled because only about a dozen people signed up (out of a maximum 200 possible). Those that did sign up have been given the option of attending another clinic location.
The health department is conducting outdoor drive-through vaccination clinics at the Vermilion Regional Airport on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day. An indoor clinic is scheduled for Wednesday from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Bremer Theater on the Danville Area Community College campus. There are also spots available at the Wednesday clinic at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Westville between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Residents can sign up for the clinics by visiting the health department’s website, VCHD.org, and read the information in the light blue box on the homepage. The vaccines are open to anyone 18 years old and older.
About 130 people received a vaccine on Monday through a public clinic at DACC and a private one at Danville Metal Stamping. The Illinois Department of Public Health reports that 11 percent of the county is completely vaccinated.
