Several local school districts will be receiving millions of dollars in COVID-19 relief payments.
Danville District 118 is set to take in the largest amount of money among local schools, at $45 million, as part of the American Rescue Package. Georgetown-Ridge Farm and Westville will each be receiving a little more than $4 million, while Oakwood schools will receive $3.2 million.
State Senator Scott Bennett’s office says that the federal money will give schools flexible options to spend over the next three years. At least 20 percent must be used to address learning loss, but the money can also be used to address many other issues and costs.
State schools received a total of $7 billion in coronavirus relief money. $128 million went to schools in Bennett’s district. Champaign Unit 4 is receiving $36 million, while Urbana District 116 is set to receive $20 million from the government.
