Friends of a Westville police officer are planning a benefit in her honor next month.
Misti Smitley was diagnosed with sarcoidosis in November. The condition is an inflammatory disease that affects multiple organs in the body, mostly in the lungs and lymph nodes. Abnormal masses consisting of inflamed tissues form in certain areas of the body.
Currently, Smitley is experiencing extreme fatigue, painful lumps under her skin, bone and joint pain, skin sores, hair loss and extreme weight loss. She is continuing to serve as a Westville officer and is the mother of six children. Her husband, Kyle, is a sergeant with the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department.
The benefit will be held at the Gao Grotto from 1-7 p.m. on Saturday, May 1st. A dinner will be served, as well as raffles, silent auctions and live music. Donations can be made to the Bank of Rossville, and you can find more information by searching for “Misti Smitley Benefit” on Facebook.
