Danville City Council members have approved a zoning change and annexation agreement for the new Villas of Holly Brook Assisted Living Community. The development along the 2200 block of North Bowman Avenue will also include a Reflections Memory Care unit.
An attorney representing Liberty Village of Danville questioned statistics which had been presented regarding whether there was a need for additional units in Danville. But Mayor Scott Eisenhauer noted…
Attorney Ed Barney, representing Liberty Village, told council members before the vote that there is a decline in the demographics in this area. ‘’The population is going down,’’ said Barney, ‘’so the need is going down.’’
‘’This project is not a Villas versus anything else that is here,’’ is what Vermilion Advantage President Vicki Haugen told City Council members prior to the vote. ‘’They did a feasibility study,’’ said Haugen, ‘’and even with their development there will still be unmet needs.’’
City Council members also rejected a zoning change that would have cleared the way for a new and used appliance business at 2305 East Main Street. And aldermen approved a Voorhees Street bridge replacement agreement. Bid-opening to replace the bridge (which is located between Bowman Avenue and Jackson Streets) is set for next month. Construction is expected to begin in May or June. Voorhees Street in the area of the bridge will be closed during this summer’s entire construction season.
