Vermilion County Sheriff’s Police and other emergency services in our region have been busy dealing with flooding. Sheriff’s Captain Eric Deck says deputies rescued one woman in northern Vermilion County from the top of her car after it was swept off county road 3800 North, east of Illinois route one.
Deck told VermilionCountyFirst.com News the woman was hanging onto the door and roof of her vehicle in 32-degree weather. Although she was cold, Deck says the woman is alright.
Vermilion County Sheriff’s Police also used a boat to reach some other people this morning in the Potomac area and Seaton Hill area north of Danville. And deputies went door-to-door by boat in the Morins Addition west of Danville to make sure everyone was safe. Danville Firefighters and Police were also on hand there.
Many roads around Vermilion County are flooded and the Vermilion County Emergency Management Agency is urging motorists to turn around in areas where they see flood waters running across a road. Turn around – don’t drown.
Deck says at one point along the Potomac-Collision Road floodwaters were about 2 feet deep across the road. Deck says he has never seen the water that deep in that area before.
