The Vermilion County Health Department says that 50 more COVID-19 cases have been confirmed locally over the past two days.
31 new cases were reported on Monday evening, and an additional 19 on Tuesday. A majority of the new cases include people who are under the age of 60. Only two of the new cases are people in their 70’s, with four being in their 60’s.
Health Department Administrator Doug Toole says that seven county residents are currently hospitalized with the coronavirus, and 104 cases are active. The current cases include the B-117 variant that originated in the United Kingdom. Toole says that local residents should continue to take precautionary measures such as wearing face masks and distancing themselves from others to slow the spread.
Vermilion County’s rolling positivity rate has increased to 2.8 percent, although it is lower than Champaign County. Region 6, which includes east central Illinois, is well within the safe range of COVID-19 case metrics.
