Students at Georgetown-Ridge Farm schools will be learning remotely once again next week.
Superintendent Jean Neal says that the number of students being diagnosed with COVID-19 has increased in its school buildings.
Georgetown-Ridge Farm High School and Mary Miller Junior High School have moved to remote learning today. Pine Crest Elementary students will learn remote starting on Monday. In-person learning will resume on May 17th.
Vermilion County Health Department Administrator Doug Toole said on WDAN’s Newsmakers earlier this week that the number of cases involving teenagers and grade-school-aged kids has increased. He says this would be a problem for not just kids but those whom they live with.
COVID cases have also been reported in a handful of Danville District 118 schools, most recently South View Upper Elementary School, but those cases have not resulted in closures of school buildings.
The health department reported 10 new cases among teenagers on Thursday. 35 new cases were reported overall, which also include one person in their 80’s and four people in their 60’s. There are currently 163 active cases and eight patients hospitalized.
