The Vermilion County Board has placed itself on record opposing Senate bill in Springfield that could impact wind energy facilities. County Board Chairman Larry Baughn says Senate Bill 1602 was filed in February….
{AUDIO: ‘’One part of it says the State will set controls for the windmill parameters, how big the turbines are, set-backs – and then the County would be the enforcer. We’re just one step closer to the State zoning counties, and so that’s the big push for many county boards across the state with resolutions this month to ask state lawmakers to vote no on that Senate bill,’’ said Baughn.}
Baughn also noted Vermilion County already has a wind ordinance in place…
{AUDIO: ‘’We set those requirements, as you’ll remember, some years ago. And with the talk of more wind farms coming around the area – now more than ever – from the north end to the south end at this point, it’s just something that we feel like we’re the ones that live by it – so we should control that,’’ said Baughn during an interview with VermilionCountyFirst.com News.}
County Board member Kevin Green noted that Senator Scott Bennett has said the bill could lay in limbo forever. ‘’But if you’re wanting to speak-out, now is a good time to do so,’’ added Green. Nineteen board members voted to send a message to Springfield expressing their opposition to the bill. Eight others were absent.
