Eastern Illinois FoodBank has been given a donation to help support its mobile food pantries in Vermilion County.
The organization will receive $22,000 from the Hershey Company of Pennsylvania to help combat childhood hunger. Funding will be used to support four of the foodbank’s mobile pantries that are used to give food to needy people in rural communities.
On average, each Vermilion County foodmobile delivers more than 6,000 pounds of food to 200 households facing food insecurity, including 120 children. The grant was made available through Feeding America, the nation’s network of more than 200 food banks. There are currently more than 5,500 children in Vermilion County living with food insecurity per the latest projections from Feeding America.
Two food giveaways are planned in the coming weeks in Danville. The first is on Saturday, May 22nd at the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store on North Vermilion Street, and the second is on Saturday, June 12th at South View Upper Elementary School. Both events start at 9:30 a.m.
Clients will remain in their cars and boxes of food will be loaded into their vehicle by volunteers. Clients should clear space in their trunk or back seat prior to arriving at the distribution to prevent contact.
Those planning to attend should pre-register at www.EIFclient.com, although doing so does not guarantee a place in line.
