More than 165 students will be receiving their degrees during Danville Area Community College’s graduation ceremony on Friday night at 7 p.m. inside Mary Miller Gymnasium.
Students who are participating in the ceremony have been given two tickets to the in-person event, which will also be streamed online via YouTube for anyone who cannot attend.
There are more than 340 graduates in this year’s class. Six of them who will be speaking at the event have earned summa cum laude honors for a grade point average of 4.0. Those include Sidney Spires of Georgetown, Nick Pinter of Westville, Alexis Darby of Bismarck, Matthew Cress of Bismarck, Alex Schaumburg of Westville, and Tinlee Shepherd of Westville. Shepherd is a “dual” graduate, meaning she is graduating from both DACC and high school at the same time.
Magna cum laude graduates have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.750-3.999 and will wear a gold tassel and a gold cord; cum laude grades have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50-3.749 and will wear a gold tassel. Students’ ability to be recognized at the graduation ceremony is based on the cumulative grade-point average calculated at the end of the fall semester prior to the spring ceremony.
