Danville and Vermilion County election officials are reminding voters that Early and Grace Period voting continues in advance of this month’s election.
Danville Election Commission Executive Director Sandra Delhaye says you do not have to give a reason for voting early. She says a lot of voters have said they simply want to get it done. Others have given a reason as to why they are voting early – despite the fact they do not need a reason.
Vermilion County Clerk Cathy Jenkins office says Early Voting has been ‘’pretty steady’’. As of Friday more Democrats had requested ballots than Republicans from the County Clerk’s office.
Illinois law provides for early voting and vote by mail for all registered voters. Jenkins and Delhaye say the last day a ballot may be mailed to a voter is Thursday, March 15th. In-person early voting is available at the Danville Board of Election Commission and County Clerk’s offices through Monday, March 19th.
Voters who are registering to vote during the Grace Period must vote when they register. They will not be allowed to vote at their normal polling place for this one election.
Both the County Clerk and Danville Election Commission offices are still located at the Vermilion County Courthouse Annex. Those offices will not be moved to the new Vermilion County Administration Building (at the former federal court building) until after Election Day.
Both election offices also provide assistance for voters who are permanently disabled. Jenkins says voters who are disabled by request an application for a special identification card. It will enable the voter to automatically receive a vote by mail ballot application for every election for the next five years. The card is also renewable for those voters who live outside Danville but within Vermilion County.
Voting aids and assistance in marking the ballot will be available at all Vermilion County polling places on Election Day – March 20th, 2018.
