Five day suspensions have been handed down against two Danville Police officers who had been on paid administrative leave.
Public Safety Director Larry Thomason says he decided to suspend officers Austin Buckley and Troy Nipper after reviewing the results of an internal investigation. Thomason says there was evidence that both officers had consumed alcoholic beverages after hours while off-duty.
He says the evidence centered on a video tape which was reviewed from the 610 Tavern on North Vermilion Street. Director Thomason says the tape was being reviewed as part of the investigation into the murder of Jay Hein. Hein owned the 610 Tavern and was found dead in his home on February 14th. A suspect has been arrested in the killing.
Director Thomason says Nipper and Buckley violated departmental rules and regulations by consuming the beverages after the closing time for bars. The 5 day unpaid suspension is the maximum that Thomason can impose without referring a case to the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners.
