As offices move out of the Vermilion County Courthouse Annex, the future of the building which stands above the Annex – Bresee Tower – remains uncertain. Scottie Porter, Executive Director of Historic Restorations, Inc. told VermilionCountyFirst.com News on Monday that his non-profit, charitable organization is still tied up in litigation over Bresee Tower. ‘’We won’t do anything in Danville until the litigation has been dismissed,’’ added Porter.
Porter said last October that his Alabama company was disappointed that the City of Danville decided to file suit against him, less than a week after his company accepted the challenge of restoring Bresee Tower.
The suit said Land Company of Danville, LLC. had failed or refused to adequately repair or otherwise put the building at 4 North Vermilion Street in Danville in a safe condition. Historic Restorations, Inc. is the parent company of Land Company of Danville, LLC.
Bresee Tower continues to sit empty in downtown Danville. And by the end of this month the Vermilion County Courthouse Annex building which surrounds it will also be empty. Only the Vermilion County Clerk’s Office and Danville Board of Election Commission offices are still in the Annex. And they are both scheduled to move to the Vermilion County Administration Building at 201 North Vermilion Street after next week’s election.
