Danville city officials recently paid for a $10,000 study to consider possibly moving city operations to East Voorhees Street.
Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. said during Tuesday night’s city council meeting that the city commissioned Farnsworth Group to look into possibly moving all of the current operations at City Hall to the Public Works Building.
The Public Works Building will soon have a lot of available space, as Ameren is moving its operations to the former Gaudio Budweiser building on Georgetown Road in Tilton. Ameren owned the Voorhees Street building for decades before selling it to the city and leasing 5,000 square feet in 2008. Its lease expires next spring.
Ameren had been paying utilities on the building, but that will no longer be the case once they move, and the city will be paying approximately $80,000 a year for utilities. The vacant Ameren space will still have to be heated and maintained.
Farnsworth has also conducted studies on other city facilities in the past, including the Garfield Park Pool and Bresee Tower. Council members approved the study expense during their meeting.
