Hot, humid weather failed to deter crews early Friday as they pitched-in to clean around Danville’s Lake Vermilion. Aqua Illinois Water Company and Vermilion County Conservation District employees were joined by volunteers as they focused on pulling debris out of the lake. Citizens living along the lake were also allowed to place items along the shore to be removed.

Items removed from the lake ranged from logs and barrels to tires. Those involved searched Lake Vermilion for items that could potentially harm boats or jet skis. It is an effort to not only improve safety for those using the lake for recreation but also the quality of the water.

Aqua Illinois, in partnership with the Lake Vermilion Water Quality Coalition, has been hosting Lake Vermilion Clean-up Day since 2003.
