Danville Police are seeking help from the public as they investigate a Thursday evening (June 17th) shooting. Police Commander Joshua Webb says officers were called to the area of the 1000 block of Clay Street shortly after 5:00 p.m. in reference to a female who had been shot in the chest.
The 18-year-old victim told police she was inside her apartment with her boyfriend when she heard a loud noise and realized she had been shot. She was transported to an area hospital where she was admitted and was listed in stable condition.
Commander Webb says officers determined that the victim’s 16-year-old boyfriend accidentally discharged a handgun inside the apartment resulting with the victim being shot. The handgun was recovered at the scene and the 16-year-old was taken into custody. He is facing charges of reckless discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon – under 21 years old. No other injuries were reported.
Danville Police are continuing their investigation into the incident trying to determine how the 16-year-old got the handgun.
