Illinois State Police have announced results of recent Nighttime Enforcement (NITE) patrols in Vermilion County. District 10 State Police Commander Louis Kink says the patrols focused on impaired driving and occupant restraint violations. Troopers were especially looking for those violations between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
There were 15 citations or arrests and 10 motorists were given written warnings. There were no DUI (driving under the influence) citations or other alcohol or drug citations. Two motorists were cited for insurance violations, 2 for driver’s license offenses, and 2 for registration offenses. And one person was cited for violating the occupant restraint law.
Alcohol and drug impairment are factors in more than 30-percent of all fatal crashes in Illinois. And over half of those fatal crashes occur at night.
