Some leaders in Tilton say they appreciate the fact that improvements are coming to Interstate-74 in their area. But they are disappointed the State is not tossing its support behind proposed improvements at the Interstate-74 interchange at G Street.

Tilton Trustee Bill Wear (shown here) says the village also wants to extend G Street 500 feet to the north for economic development….
{AUDIO: ‘’We’ve got a truck stop wanting to build over here. Well, IDOT, just so happens they’ve got a major interstate project going on. But for some odd reason Tilton’s being left out of this as far as the off-ramps and all of that.’’}
Tim Dudley, President of Vermilion Advantage, says the area is ripe for development….
{AUDIO: ‘’Everybody’s worked so hard to get that site cleaned-up. It’s perfect for development and just to not have a way to get in and out of there safely – I think it just (a) tragedy. So, hopefully, with this public meeting tonight maybe IDOT will see the light and see what a great project that will be, and change their tune a little bit.}
At a public hearing in Tilton last (Wednesday) night plans were discussed for extending exit ramps to improve safety, add a third lane adjacent to the interstate from Illinois route one to G Street, and increase the clearance for G Street traffic under the interstate from 14 to 16 feet.
