Money Smart Week activities are continuing in the Danville area this week. This morning (Wednesday, April 25th, 2018) the CRIS Healthy Aging Center will be hosting a free breakfast (for those who RSVP’d earlier). Those attending will have an opportunity to learn how to manage their personal finances with tips from a variety of experts. Several agencies will also have booths set-up to pass along information to those in attendance, and there will be games where prizes can be worn. The event is scheduled to run from 7:00 until 11:00 a.m.
Other Money Smart Week events will also be occurring this week…with much of the action taking place at the Danville Public Library. Special events at the library this week include:
April 25: Preschool Pals Playgroup will meet at 10:00 a.m. in the children’s program room. As part of Money Smart Week, children will learn sorting skills and play store. For children, ages 2-6 years, and their caregivers.
April 25: Data Breaches and Identity Theft: What Next? What do you do if someone steals your identity or another data breach occurs? Kathy Sweedler from the University of Illinois Extension Office will be here to answer your questions to help you navigate these choppy waters. 5 p.m. in the SECOND floor meeting room
April 25: As part of Money Smart Week, teens will make duct tape wallets, watch a BizKids video and complete trivia sheets to earn Library Bucks. This program will meet 5:00 p.m. in the first floor meeting room. For teens, ages 12 to 18.
April 26: Learn the basics of Microsoft Excel in the second floor meeting room from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Participants must be familiar with how to use a computer and with Microsoft Word. The class is free, but seating is limited.
April 26: Don’t Lose Your $$$: All About Consumer Fraud. Regina Haasis, Assistant Attorney General & Director of the East Central Illinois Regional Office of Attorney General will discuss consumer fraud and take questions. 5 p.m. in the first floor meeting room.
April 26: Tween Gaming is a chance for children ages 8-11 to game together in the Children’s Program Room from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
April 26: As part of Money Smart Week, the Teen (Check) Book Challenge will focus on learning how to write checks, deposit slips and balance a check book. This program will be held at 5:00 p.m. in the second floor conference room. For teens, ages 12-18.
April 27: Money Smart Coffee Time for Seniors. While enjoying coffee and tea, listen to Evonne Luster of CRIS Healthy Aging discuss Money Management for Seniors. 9:30 a.m. in the first floor meeting room.
