New unemployment numbers are out showing Vermilion County’s jobless rate in March was down from March of 2017. But the county’s unemployment rate rose between February and March of this year.
The report released by the Illinois Department of Employment Security shows Vermilion County’s jobless rate rose from 5.6 percent in February to 5.8 percent in March. Danville’s unemployment rate also rose slightly from 5.6 to 5.8 percent.
Champaign County’s unemployment rate also rose slightly, going from 3.7 percent in February to 3.8 percent in March. A year ago in March the Champaign County unemployment rate was 4.5 percent.
New figures show Vermilion County gained 100 jobs in the Mining & Construction category over the year, and 100 new jobs were also added in Manufacturing. But the Government, Retail Trade, Financial Activities, and Professional and Business Services categories each lost 100 jobs since March of 2017.
Edgar County’s jobless rate of 4.0 percent in March was down 1.2 percent from a year ago. In Iroquois County the March jobless rate of 4.5 percent is down from 5.2 percent a year ago.
