Reconstruction work is scheduled to begin Monday, April 30th on a residential intersection near the Danville Family YMCA. The intersection of Jackson and English streets is expected to be closed all summer as work begins on the city’s first ‘round-about’ intersection.
A local detour using East Center Street and North Hazel will be posted for motorists who inadvertently enter the work area. The project will include correcting the offset legs of Jackson Street. It will also complete the shared use path sidewalks that were previously constructed on English and Jackson streets. The city is currently working on plans to extend the shared use path north along Jackson to Voorhees Street, and on plans to complete the Danville High School campus project.
The project began in 2009 as part of a community discussion regarding improvements along the Jackson Street Corridor.
