The Danville Public Library Foundation is kicking-off a used book sale Thursday (August 5, 2021) that includes a lot more than books. Foundation Executive Director Peter Blackmon says there are also lots of CDs and DVDs. He says the sale is long overdue….
{AUDIO: ”The last sale we had was in November of 2019, because of the pandemic we had to take a break. So we had quite a few books already, but without doing sales they just continued to pile-up and pile-up, so we decided to go big this time.}
They have set-up a huge tent beside the library for the sale that runs through Saturday. (Hours are 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. both Thursday and Friday, and 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Saturday.)

Blackmon (on right in photo) says none of the items are individually priced….
{AUDIO: ”I’ve always been a believer in not having money be a stopper to things along these lines – education, what have you. So I’d hate to think that somebody couldn’t even buy the used books at a discounted rate. So, you come in — you take what you want — and you make a donation that you can either afford or whatever you think is fair. And that’s what we’re doing.”}
Blackmon notes all of the money raised through the sale goes to support the Danville Public Library. He says the Library Foundation has been pro-active in other ways….
{AUDIO: ”We’re coordinating with the library, right now – the past couple of months – on re-growing the grass here, mulching, taking care of 100-percent of the landscaping. We actually took over from the City of Danville as everybody is overwhelmed. So we found that we can fill that void, and those are the kinds of things that we’re doing.”}
The library is hosting a Vermilion Advantage After-Hours event, and a donor and volunteer reception this week. And Blackmon says, hopefully, those attending the events will decide to buy some books.
