Illinois State Police say Troopers and Zone 5 Investigators are looking into multiple reports of vehicles being damaged while traveling along Interstate 74 between Ogden and Champaign. The incidents have occurred over several weeks with the first ones reported on March 30th,
District 10 Commander, Captain Louis Kink, says drivers have reported their windows were shattered by an unknown object or objects. Anyone who has information regarding these incidents or has witness this occurring, is urged to call Illinois State Police at (217) 867-2050.
‘’We are taking these criminal activities very seriously,’’ said Captain Kink. ‘’Participating in this type of activity can injure or kill a driver or passenger in a vehicle, and possibly cause a major traffic crash,’’ he added.
On Wednesday evening a 3-year-old Monticello boy suffered minor injuries when something caused a window to shatter on a vehicle in which he was riding. The incident occurred near the Lincoln Avenue exit at Urbana.
Champaign County Sheriff’s Police are assisting Illinois State Police in the investigation of these incidents.
